McDonald’s: Free Wireless
My design partner visited DDB Sydney when she was a student at SCAD. After seeing our work, they asked us to submit ideas for their McDonald’s pitch. The idea was to get across that McDonald’s now had free wireless internet. Our first idea was to use french fries as the wireless symbol. We didn’t submit it because it was our initial idea and thought it had been done to death. And after researching, we found it had been. So we decided to talk to PC and Mac users in a language they understood — keyboard commands. The headlines were endless and fun to write. I felt they told the wireless story quickly, without needing flashy photography. In the end, DDB went with, guess what…french fries in a wireless symbol — on our very same background. Live and learn.
